President's Report
The Men’s Shed want their shed NOW, and we are told the agreement with Council for the Big Green Shed is pretty close, & only subject to a bit of lease twerking and insurance issues.

The good news.
After more than 9 months of lobbying the local Council and other organisations, I am please to announce that as from last Thursday, April 2, 2015, the Caloundra City Council has agreed to lease an unused shed located on the corner of Queen Street and Alan Street in Caloundra. This is fantastic news for all of us and I welcome you all to come and see the shed next Tuesday morning and give us a hand with the cleaning as the shed has not been used for at least 5 years. This contract was signed between the Caloundra City Council and the Caloundra Rotary Club and the men's shed with have access to it for a period of 12 months. This will give us plenty of time to complete the construction of the new shed on Meridan Plains.

Joint Meeting at the University of the Sunshine Coast 20th May. We will cancel our normal breakfast meeting in lieu.

Three Rotary scholarships of $4,000 each will be presented.  You will hear from the recipients as well as from USC's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Greg Hill, and guest speaker Brendan Powell. And it is a unique opportunity for Rotary fellowship with members of other Coast clubs and with USC senior staff, as well as with the winners of your 2015 Rotary scholarships.  Dinner is included in the $25 charge. Dinner is served from 6.15pm, with the meeting commencing at 7.30pm and concluding around 9pm.

Inga started with the raw statistics - There are 2500 suicides in Australia each year - that’s seven/day.

Each situation is unique. The question for us - If we suspect someone is going to take their life, should we talk to them about it. Answer is yes, but only if we have the skills and resolve to address the situation fully. Otherwise best to find someone with the right skills

A good year coming up ..

Rotary International President-elect K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran called Sunday's address to incoming district governors the "most significant moment of my life."

"All of you have been given so many gifts. And you have now been given this great gift: one year to take all your talents, all your gifts, everything that you are and can become -- and Be a Gift to the World," said Ravindran, revealing his presidential theme at the annual five-day training meeting in San Diego, California, USA. "You have one year to take that potential and turn it into reality. One year to lead the clubs in your district and transform the lives of others. The time is so short, yet there is so much to be done.”

Merv gave a rundown of the Water & sanitation projects coming up. Merv was speaking at 100 miles an hour so it was a blur of showers, WC’s, solar panels and water tanks to nurse aid posts kindergardens and schools scattered across the archipelago in places so obscure they are probably not even on my map
